Born in the 19th Century –
stronger than ever in the 21st Century
Although the present company was founded in 1978 by the
current Chairman, A.J.Randell, the Randell business as such
was formed back in 1820 in North Walsham, Norfolk, where they
had a foundry manufacturing what became a complete line of
agricultural machinery. This was mostly horse drawn and
included ploughs, drills, cultivators and hoes, water carts,
feeding troughs and many other items of farm equipment. F & H
Randell was the original company name, founded by the Great,
Great, Great Grandfather of Randells present Managing
Director, William Randell.
Continuing family name
In 1963 the original Randell family business was sold to the
Australian firm Dalgety Engineers who retained the use of the
original family name until 1990 when they sold the business
and the name was no longer used. Meanwhile in 1978 an
opportunity had arisen for A.J. Randell to re-establish the
business at Horstead near Norwich, basically in competition
with the ‘old’ company. Some would say that this was
successful as the old company eventually went out of business
but 30 years since its inception Randells new company
continues to grow and flourish.
Strong relationships with
quality suppliers
From 1978 until 1981/2 Randells was predominantly involved
with crop storage and grain handling equipment but a change in
legislation which affected grant aid payments had a
detrimental affect on this type of equipment so dealerships
for other types of machinery were sought. The first of these
was Kverneland, at the time a little known Norwegian plough
maker, which quickly gained an excellent reputation amongst
farmers, as did Randells for their support and back-up of the
machines. Today Kverneland are the UK market leaders and
through acquisitions made throughout the 1990’s have become
World leaders in the farm machinery business. The second
notable franchise which Randells secured was Vaderstad - once
again a relatively unknown cultivator and seed drill maker
from Sweden - who have become leaders in their field today.
Expansion into Garden
Machinery
As the company grew in the 1980s Randells took on their first
garden machinery franchise and quickly developed a good
reputation in the ride-on mower market. Today the company are
main dealers for many of the leading brands of garden/groudscare
machinery such as Countax, Mountfield, Etesia, Kioti,
Shibaura, Echo, Bear Cat and many others. Randells pride
themselves in their service and spareparts back-up facilities
for all the machines they sell.
Expansion of Agricultural
Business
In 2005 an opportunity arose with another local farm machinery
business (Norfolk Farm Machinery) and as a result a new
company was formed. Randell NFM Ltd are main dealers for the
leading names in farm machinery today – Massey Ferguson, Fendt,
Kverneland, Accord, Vaderstad, Monosem, and many more. Visit

Machinery business
Randells Garden, Grounds and Leisure Equipment, with their
three outlets across Norfolk has evolved into a specialist

Further expansion into
Leisure Machinery / Equipment
Having already established a huge customer base of people with
large gardens, Randells have expanded into trampolines,
go-karts, quad bikes and other outdoor equipment. This market
looks set for continued expansion as more products are added
to the range.
